Icehockey for beginners

For who?

SR hockey school is for beginners at all ages. The main goal is to have fun and learn how to skate while doing so.


The goal is to teach kids the basics of ice skating. The program is based on Learn to Play from IIHF where the emphasis is on balance, mobility and give kids a good and positive environment.


Alexandra Hafsteinsdóttir is a hockey player with RVK womens team, U18 SR and  Icelandic womens national team. For last two seasons she has been assistant coach to Milos head coach in U8-U14 and been the head coach for our very popular girls practises.

Erla Guðrún, who is a former hockey player for the SR women’s team, joined to SR coaching staff again this season after a few years away. She is assistant coach in U8-U10 and assistant coach on girls practises. She has coached in hockey school a few years ago.

When and were?

SR hockey school is three times a week in the Skautahöllin ice rink, Laugardal Reykjavík.
Sundays at 11:45 – 12:45
Tuesdays at 18:00 – 19:00
Fridays at 17:30 – 18:15

Besides that female beginners at all ages are welcome to girls practises on Mondays at 18:15 – 19:15.

How much?

Beginners can try out for free for a week.
10 times at SR hockey school + practises with appropriate age group for the rest of the season costs 25.000 ISK.
Leisure grants can be used at SR hockey club.
4 years and younger only pay 10.000 ISK for SR hockey school.
SR hockey club can lends kid protective gear to begin with.

Good to know

It’s good to attend in warm clothes that’s easy to move in. It’s also important to show up 15-20 minutes before to find a helmet, skates and protective equipment.
